im thinking ashton has sensory issues, when he is excited or frustarted etc he bites himself mainly on his effected side (arm) .
can anyone offer ne any advice as to how you tackle these issues, when prompted before hand he will not bite himself
any advice please my physio doesnt seem to know and my appointment with the paed is not til next april

I do not know the answer but I think that next April is too long to wait.  Call your Paediatrician's secretary at the hospital and expalin the situation and that you need advice.  The secretary should get the consultant to speak to you. 

If this does not work then go to your GP for urgent referral to a behaviouralist so that you can be referred.

That seems like good advice, April is way too long to wait if you have concerns so I'd definitely try to get in touch with the paediatrician in the mean while. If there is anything I can add it would be to try your best not to react when Ashton bites himself. Elise seems to go through phases of trying new behaviours to see if she can get Paula or I to react and give her attention, but if you do react it makes it much harder to stop her doing it in the future. Currently its shrieking at the top of her voice, but it has included worse things in the past!

This article may be helpful to you, it suggests ways stop children from biting them selves. In my clinical placements I have seen picture cards showing "No biting" being used as well.

ot went okay , she says she not gonna assess ashton any further as he seem to be up to date with all fine motor skills for his age , he actualled did things with her that id never seen him do , string beads etc I mentioned the biting thing and believe it or not he didnt do it once yesterday while we were away from his younger sister as soon as we got home and they started aurguing over a in the midnight garden figure he bite his finger , i ignored it , gave him the look he didnt do it again ........................................
OT didnt know what to make of the biting she thinks it could just be a habit , attention seeking going to follow the step on the article that Claire kindly posted and see how it goes for a month , dont really know what else to do , Dont know either if i should have pushed more for OT help or not to me ashton can do most things that a typical 3 - 4 year old can do any way , except physical things like running fast , hopping and riding a bike (will not even attempt)
