So, two of my boys are on daily Nurtropin growth hormone injections.  JB is 13 and has been on them for almost 2 years, A is 7 and is just starting the process and is about 3 months in.  They both have pituatary dwarfism and would be considered handicapped if this growth hormone wasn't available.

We just got back from their 4 month endocronological appointment and they have both grown so well!  JB grew 4.5 inches and gained 7 pounds, and A grew 2.1 inches gaining 4 pounds.  This was in the last 4 months for JB and last 2 for A!   This is such exciting news and I feel like I can't really share it with other friends who experience normal rate growth, or nonspecial needs children.  I want to shout from the mountain tops, "MY BOYS HAVE GROWN!"  I thought you guys would understand my happiness a little better. Fantastic.

My son has Prader Willi syndrome and has been on GH for 6 years now

He is on 25th centile for height and 50th for weight

Before he started he was under the bottom line for height.

It does work and he is one of the class now and not one who stands out of the class due to his size

Thats awesome.  It is so amazing that we live in a day and time where they have things like GH.  So happy to hear your results!

Really pleased with you news!!

Funny how your expectations change when you have children with additional needs. Michael has recently had some speech assessments done and he is on the first percentile! Was so excited that he was on the chart at all!

Whatever people say, having special children certainly makes you appreciate things that others take for granted.  Smiley

@Paula,

That is great news!  Hey to be on the scale is an accomplishment.  You're right having special needs child changes the way you see the world.  It has stretched and changed our parenting for the best.

The first time we saw fireworks with JZ I was trying to hold her down to show her the fireworks that were up high, telling her they were fun....all she wanted to do was watch from the inside window, and I finally just let her go inside.  I sat there totally upset and let it ruin my whole time.  Afterwards all JZ talked about was how much fun the fireworks were and how pretty they were.  She was experiencing them in her own way and enjoyed it...thats when it clicked.  Its not how I think it should be, its how it is for them.  She didn't need to experience my way to have fun!  An ahhh-haaaa moment.

Bless!

It is certainly true that we have to reevaluate certain things and understand that our children may not do things in a conventional way but in a way that suits them. At one point we were really worried that Michael did not play. All he does is rearrange things and potter. After speaking to the psychologist, he quite rightly pointed out that Michael was happy and entertaining himself and learning but just doing it differently. Not worried now but drives me mad re organising the kitchen - can't find anything!!
