hi all.
we have been fighting for help for our son dylan since h was about 2 yrs old,
to cut a long story short everyone involved think he has adhd or aspergers or even autiam, we are awaiting a appointment out of town with a specialist as all the drs here said they dont know enough about adhd!!

we wote to the council a few months ago asking for a formal assessment to begin, and was told by all involved that we would be declined this and we would have to appeal etc, well to my suprise we have been accepted, they received the report from school and decided to go ahead with it.

i now dont know weather to be pleased we have got this far without a fight, ar to be worried as now i feel his needs are worse than we thought, as they only usually agree for the assessment first time if they childrens needs cannot be met by School Action and School Action Plus, which according to there website is very rare?? so now i am confused.

please can you advise me as to what to expect next. thankyou xxx

Hello and welcome

I hope that some of the others can advise better but you should be getting information about the formal statementing process.  However it also seems that you need to get a diagnosis for your son in place which will help with a statement.  A formal diagnosis is not absolutely necessary but it can help.

I will have a think of the best place for you to look but do keep pushing.

Good luck and hopefully some of the others will be able to help - my son has Prader Willi and as he was diagnosed at 4 weeks it has been relatively easy with things like statementing as I have know since birth really that it would be needed.

Hi!

Have a look at this link as it explains it all quite well.

I don't know if you have a local parent support group which you can contact who will be able to advise you specifically about local policies and issues such as Face 2 Face? Also, you can always ring up the Educational Psychologists or the Education Dept at your Town Hall who may be able to advise you further.

Let us know if you have any specific questions and I will try and help. Good Luck!
