Hi

Hi,

I'm John, husband of Paula who writes this site. I'm a software developer in my day job, and seem to have landed myself with the evening job of developing the Special Families website!

If you read Paula's blog (www.specialfamilies.org/blog.html) you'll know all about us, but as a quick summary we have 2 children who we'd like to keep anonymous for various reasons. The first is a 5 year old 'strapping young man' with various learning difficulties and physical developmental delays. He also has a kidney condition called Cystinuria but this does not explain his developmental delays. The kidney condition means that he will occasionally need an op to remove stones (in January 2005 they removed 58!). He attends a special school which seems to be going really well.

Our daughter is 3 and adopted. We set out to adopt someone with learning or physical disabilities as we felt that having an able sibling might cause problems for our son. She's a beautiful girl, full of beans, with similar physical delays to our son but also ADHD and dyspraxia. She has recently started attending the special needs nursery attached to a mainstream school.

Hope you enjoy the site!

John
