Hi all, my name is cathy and i have a young lad of 17 with DS and numerous ongoing health issues. I was 19 when liam was born and although i was terrified back then i can say that he has brought us nothing but love pride and happiness! Now though im finding a new and difficult stage, liam has severe/profound learning delay very limited speech, vague signing and repetitive behaviour, he is also deaf though has now been fitted with a hearing implant that he is not coping with very well.(dont you think it always sounds a total nightmare when you actually write it down?) Its transition year for us and liam leaving school feels like im losing a leg! I guess what im asking is what now?? lol... I have looked at loads of options either workshops, college, centre based day care etc and he doesnt seem to fit in anywhere. I just want my wee man to be happy and get the best out of every oppertunity anyone know of a school that runs till the pupils are at least 50? lol......

Hello Cathy

Thank you for your post and welcome to the forum.  Sorry I missed your post earlier when I was dealing with a load of spam on the site.

I am sure that there are places out there - just not sure how to advise you as to where to look.  My uncle is in a scheme and has been all his life - he has lived in this scheme for the last 25 years or so and is now 58.

Why not contact Mencap and ask for their help in finding somewhere - apologies if you have already done that but am sure that is who organised my uncle's stuff together with local Social.

Hope this helps a little but I am sure that the school must also be able to advise - they must have leavers every year?

xxxxx
