My grandson has Aspergers, Sensory Disorder and ADHD. He is now statemented but the main stream school he goes to keep telling me they can meed all his needs as they don't have the funding. Also some of the items on the statement are not being met at all ie speech therapy, his speech is almost incoherent but all he is getting is inclusion in a once every three months visit to the school by speech therapist in group session aimed at children with stutters and lisps. He can't deal with group situation and needs one to one but they say this is all they can afford.

I have been told it is illegal not to meet his statemented needs, is this true?

Hello and welcome.

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

Not meeting a statement is illegal but you have to be certain as to what it actually says in a statement so you ened to read the wording properly and if the wording is not good then you might have to fight to get it changed.

The example I have was from my son's statement.  He had listed a lot of activities and things he could not do which he would need an OT to help us with the work out what to do.

However, no where in his statement was it listed that an OT should visit.  We have now had the wording amended although even now I still have to fightt o get them there as they aer so short staffed.

SO do read the statement and make sure that the wording says and then fight them on it.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Best wishes
